Maya Claire Jordan was born on Saturday February 20th at 3:20 pm. She was 7 lbs, 6 oz, and 20.5 inches long.
As you know I had been having contractions for almost two weeks. Nicole stripped my membranes on Tuesday, my due date, and then again on Friday to help try to move things along. I started having contractions on Friday night around 5 pm and they continued through the night. We went to the hospital and met Nicole, our midwife, around 7 am on Saturday morning. Everything progressed well and I was 8 cm by 12:30 pm. Nicole broke my water and about an hour and half later I was ready to push. We used a variety of pushing positions, and I was able to pull Maya onto my chest when she was born. She was alert and beautiful and couldn't stop staring up at her daddy. I was able to do a completely natural childbirth and although it was challenging I wouldn't have changed a thing. Nicole was an amazing and supportive midwife, and our doula Candace helped keep Chris and I focused and confident.
I really enjoyed the many weeks of yoga classes at Om Mama. It was so helpful to have that time every week to talk about birth and prepare physically and emotionally. I even used the flowy cat pose during early labor :)
