April 18 – 21, 2015
OmMAMA FOUNDER BIO:
Leslie Lytle, MS, CMA, LCCE, E-RYT500, combines a background in Iyengar-style yoga and vipassana meditation with imagery, poetry, and a deep understanding of the experience of pregnancy and birth. She began working with pregnant women in 1992 as massage therapist, then became a doula, which led her to pursue yoga as a tool for navigating the childbearing years. She has taught prenatal and postpartum yoga since 2000 and is a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator. Leslie brings to her yoga classes a love of movement, an eye for alignment, and a deep respect for the body’s inherent wisdom. Her goal is to empower women and families in their childbearing years so they have the strongest start into parenthood.
Leslie holds a master’s degree in Sociology where her area of focus was the sociology of health and illness with coursework in community health. She is fascinated by the intersection of biology and culture that is ever present in the childbirth arena. In 2012, Leslie founded Nurture, a nonprofit organization whose goal is to open a dedicated maternity resource center to serve Richmond’s childbearing families. A member of the Emerging Nonprofit Leaders Program Class of 2013, Leslie recently completed a Certificate in Non-Profit Management through Non-Profit Learning Point. She looks forward to the day when Richmond will be known far and wide as a mother and baby friendly city.
